Tree60: “It means the fucking world to us”

The UKIC Division 1 LAN Finals has had an upset to round it off, K10 have beaten Verdant in the Grand Final to win the event. After lifting the trophy, K10 went off to have their celebrations but UKCSGO was able to catch up with Jamie “Tree60” Callan about the win.

Tree60 won UKCSGO’s MVP award for the event and spoke to us about what it meant to win and had a special message for his family back home. He also wanted to make sure that K10 owner, Oliver “Taz” Holloway lives up to a pre-LAN promise.

Congratulations on the win, talk a bit about what this means to you and the team?

It means the f- world, I don’t know if I’m allowed to swear… It means the fucking world to us. We started yesterday versus Viperio and we honestly made so many mistakes, we were feeling so shaky. This morning losing to Verdant, almost losing to DuckDuckGOOSE we were feeling like shit, but I’m on cloud9 right now after this win. We had kind of pressure, but not so much pressure because K10 told us there’s no pressure on us, but we did really want to win it for them. They’ve given us this opportunity to have the bootcamp, they’ve signed us on, they’ve shown they believe in us and we wanted to get this win for them. One thing I wanted to add actually, I think Taz said he’s going to get a K10 tattoo if we win this so I want that on the record (laughs).

Last time you played these guys was this morning you lost, what changed?

I was saying to Ryan (Dox) last night, even if we lose versus Verdant in the morning, we’ll have another best-of-three before it and they’ll just be sitting on their arses waiting to play the game. We’ll be warm and they’ll have been on deathmatch, but they’ll be out of the hype that they were in earlier when they won. So we came off the back of that DuckDuckGOOSE comeback we were feeling great and we brought that straight back into that Verdant game.

You almost had heartbreak with DuckDuckGOOSE then you lose the first map, your own map pick, in the Grand Final. How do you get yourself back in the game?

We weren’t too tilted really. Obviously it was a really close game and we made a lot of mistakes on Vertigo, we could have won it, but we just sat outside and had a talk. Taz, the owner, was out there and he gave us speech basically and he was saying “there’s no pressure, we’ve got them on the ropes, it’s their game to lose versus us.” And we just went back inside fully invigorated, ready to win.

I don’t want to keep you from celebrating, so is there anything else you want to say?

Thank you to everyone who supported me, my girlfriend Liv, my brother Dan (Geckoes), and my parents they’ve been asking for updates everyday from me and it’s been great. I feel so privileged to be here. And thank you to UKIC to Endpoint for hosting us for the bootcamp and hosting the whole tournament – it’s been brilliant. And you Daf, thank you very much.
